Announcement: Hive City Terrain
New stuff!
Today begins the collaboration between Hive City Terrain and Fox Box. What’s Hive City Terrain?
Well I’ll let Jim tell you himself:
Hive City Terrain was started in 2011 originally to sell resin casts of terrain pieces that I used to create a large board for a heavy urban environment. I created pieces to fit the theme I had in mind and also created pieces that filled a gap in the UK wargames terrain market.
After selling a few sets to friends and having positive feedback the next logical step was to start a small scale business.
Currently I am working with Ben of Fox Box to produce his excellent sculpts.
At the moment Hive City Terrain is predominantly 28mm scale but has pieces in the pipeline for 6mm wargames. Once HCT has made enough money the website will go online with lots of terrain pieces to fulfil a wide range of gaming needs.
-JimWe’re stocking their stuff and they’re going to be helping us make our own product range a reality.
We’re starting off with his set of sandbags, of which you’ll get 3 for £6. Not too shabby, eh?
There’s more to come, of course, but that’ll take a few days.

Working hard, or at least failing to procrastinate
‘lo, all!
It’s been a hectic few weeks. Not in a rushing about sense but in a paper work, stock ordering, sculpting, and generally solid way.
As a result we now stock Lootas and Burnas, there’s Stormboyz on the way, Gretchin have also been ordered. There’s some cool stuff from us just around the corner too and more expansion plans in the pipeline.
I’d really like to go into detail about what’s being worked on but I won’t just yet for two reasons:
a) We haven’t got the stock yet
b) There’s putty everywhere. Once there’s pretty resin versions there’ll be photos.
A proper blog entry will be forthcoming this week or early next week complete with photos, models, and maybe a fancy tie too. Ooh!

Updating catalogue photos
Back in late December I was looking for a new camera to replace my old Fujifilm Z1. Reddit came to my aid and provided some nice macro shots taken with a Fujifilm HS20EXR and so I’m now the proud owner of one.
I’m working on replacing the photos I’m least satisfied with first, specifically the metal components from Micro Art Studios.
Here’s some examples; old photo:
New photo:
I’m not taking down the old photos, just adding new ones.
Another one:
New:
It is fairly difficult to get a good photo of white metal, I’ve got to say, but I’m seeing what I can do to get around the problem.

Dakka Dakka sig banners
We’ve been getting some requests for forum banners lately. We have our own that many of you have probably seen but they wanted some more fan-orientated ones and suggested some wording. Here’s what we’ve got – design 1:
Design 2:
They’re designed for use on Dakka Dakka but if you guys would like some more that don’t cut off the bottom of the box (Dakka Dakka cuts it off automatically) or are a different size I can put some together.
To save you the hassle of sorting the BB code out yourself, here you go:
User banner 1:

Drop that into your signature and you should be good to go.
Stay green!

Harumble! All systems go with regards to email!
I’m not quite well yet but I’m a whole lot better than I was this last week.
As a result our email system is online and running smoothly (at least from what I can tell!). The contact form goes to that address and it’s business as usual.
When I’ve not been working on that I’ve been researching cameras. I’ve been taking the site’s photos using a Fujifilm Z1 and, to be frank, I’m not satisfied with the image quality or the camera in general. You guys deserve better than that and I wouldn’t mind if I could take decent pics of my personal models too!
I was hoping my parents’ old Fujifilm S5000 would be available for me to take back with me to Edinburgh but as it turns out it’s not in use for a reason – the camera system is toast. Warm, buttery toast. Essentially when one switches it on the viewing/album mode works just fine but it just powers off or crashes when attempting to take photos.
Fortune smiled on me however, as I found a Nikon Coolpix 5700 nearby, also free for the taking. Unfortunately it too is knackered! It will take photos but even without the lens cap on they just come out completely black. Brilliant!
Can’t be helped, these things do happen. So I’ve been researching DSLRs and “bridge” cameras. I can’t afford a DSLR just yet (and frankly it’d probably be wasted on me) but a bridge camera seems ideal (they bridge the gap between DSLRs and point and shoot digicams).
I’m considering the Fujifilm FinePix HS20EXR at the moment. Anyone got any opinions on it?
